Spring is in the air…

… but who would notice with all these fantastic shows about to drop.

April brings 3 shows that I am very excited about: Fargo (FX), The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu), and American Gods (Starz).

Fargo begins its third season on FX.  The promos are out and it looks just as quirky and stylish as the first two seasons.  This anthology series by Noah Hawley is loosely based on the original Coen Brothers movie from 2006.  Each 10-episode season is a self-contained narrative, with connections between the seasons, but no dependencies.  So, you won’t feel lost if you haven’t seen the first two seasons.  You may, however, feel sad that you have ignored this brilliant series until now. Fargo seasons 1 and 2 are available on Netflix.  It’s 20 hours well spent. Promise.

Fargo Season 3 begins April 19 on FX.

The Handmaid’s Tale premieres on Hulu April 26.  Based on the 1986 book by Canadian author Margaret Atwood, it is a story of a dystopian near-future where the United States has been overtaken by a military dictatorship.  Women’s rights are quickly and systematically taken away.   The story is told in the first person by a “Handmaid”, a class of women kept to bear children for wealthy men.  It is a book that every Canadian growing up in the 80’s has read and one that is so relevant today.  In fact, the show’s trailer already has the Trump-supporters shouting about leftist propaganda.  Not bad for a book written in 1985.  Just another reason to add it to your watch list.

The Handmaid’s Tale begins April 26 on Hulu.

American Gods…OMG.  This is a Starz endeavour that will premiere on April 30, based on the best-selling book by Neil Gaiman.  I am so excited for this.  Mr Gaiman is one of my most favourite authors of all time.  American Gods is his epic novel that tells the story of America, with its tapestry of cultures and beliefs.  The gods of the old world, brought over in the faith and stories of immigrants and the gods of the new world, born out of society’s dependence on commerce, media and technology.  At war.

American Gods Season 1 begins April 30 on Starz.
